Philips Hue Unveils Playful, Shape‑Shifting Lights for the Smart Home

Philips Hue has rolled out a fresh collection of smart lighting that prioritises flexibility, visual flair and a dash of humor, signaling the brand’s push beyond conventional illumination. The announcement, first reported by Gizmodo, highlights two standout pieces: a pliable, rainbow‑hued light strip and a luminous pole designed to be leaned against a wall.

The bendable light is a silicone‑wrapped, multicolour LED ribbon that can be twisted into a variety of shapes, from spirals to abstract forms. Integrated with Hue’s existing ecosystem, it can be programmed through the Hue app, synced with music or movies, and controlled by popular voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. Its vivid palette and fluid form aim to let users turn walls, furniture or even outdoor decks into dynamic canvases.

The second addition is a bright, freestanding pole that doubles as a functional light source and a tactile support. Users can press the pole against a wall and adjust its angle, creating a focused beam that doubles as a decorative accent. Like other Hue products, the pole connects to the same network, enabling scene‑setting, scheduling and remote control from smartphones or smart hubs.

Philips Hue’s move reflects a broader trend in the smart‑home market where manufacturers are blending technology with interior design. The company, a long‑standing player in connected lighting, has previously focused on bulb‑ and fixture‑based solutions. By introducing more sculptural, user‑interactive pieces, Hue is addressing a growing consumer desire for devices that contribute to aesthetics as well as functionality. The new items also reinforce Hue’s commitment to interoperability, ensuring they work across the myriad platforms that dominate modern homes.

While exact pricing and launch dates have not been disclosed, the products are slated for release later this year. Industry observers expect the playful designs to attract both tech enthusiasts and design‑savvy shoppers, potentially expanding Hue’s market share in a competitive segment. As the smart‑lighting landscape continues to evolve, Philips Hue’s latest offerings demonstrate how brands are experimenting with form and fun to keep the concept of connected homes fresh and engaging.
