Microsoft has opened an investigation after the recent Windows 11 security patch KB5124008 began causing domain‑trust failures on a subset of corporate machines, leaving users unable to authenticate with their usual network credentials.
The issue surfaced shortly after the update rolled out to Windows 11 devices in early October. Administrators reported that, despite correct usernames and passwords, affected workstations rejected domain logins and displayed error messages indicating a broken trust relationship with the Active Directory server.
Domain trust is a core component of enterprise security, allowing computers to verify that they belong to a managed network. When this link fails, users are often forced to log on locally or resort to offline accounts, which can interrupt productivity and raise compliance concerns.
Microsoft’s Windows Update team confirmed that the problem appears to be isolated to certain configurations, though the exact criteria have not been disclosed.
