Google Deploys Chrome 153 Patch to Close 42 Flaws, Three Rated Critical

Google has pushed the latest stable release of its Chrome browser, version 153, to address a total of 42 security vulnerabilities, three of which are classified as Critical, according to the company’s advisory.

The update reaches users on Windows and macOS through builds 153.0.8010.47 and 153.0.8010.48, while Linux users receive 153.0.8010.47. The rollout began automatically for devices that have automatic updates enabled, and the company says the patch will be fully distributed over the next few days.

Critical‑rated bugs can enable attackers to execute arbitrary code, bypass same‑origin protections, or hijack user sessions. By fixing these three high‑impact flaws alongside 39 lower‑severity issues, Google aims to reduce the attack surface that threat actors routinely scan for in popular browsers.

Chrome’s rapid‑release schedule, typically delivering a new major version every six weeks, is designed to incorporate security fixes quickly. The browser’s built‑in sandboxing, frequent security audits, and a public bug bounty program help identify and remediate weaknesses before they can be widely exploited.

Enterprises and individual users are urged to verify that the update has been applied, especially in environments where Chrome is a primary gateway to web‑based applications. Unpatched versions remain vulnerable to known exploits that have already been weaponized in the wild, and many security tools flag outdated browsers as a compliance risk.

Google’s security team will continue to monitor the situation, issuing further patches as needed. The company encourages developers to review the detailed security advisory for guidance on mitigating any residual risks and to adopt best practices such as enabling site isolation and keeping extensions up to date.
