Manufacturers achieve this by embedding optical sensors, weight scales and chemical detectors beneath the bowl, feeding the data into machine‑learning models that have been trained on clinical stool samples. The resulting reports are delivered to a smartphone app, where users can view trends over time and receive alerts that suggest when a doctor’s visit might be warranted.

Proponents argue that continuous, at‑home monitoring could catch early signs of conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer or nutrient deficiencies, potentially reducing the need for invasive tests.
