LG expands Sound Suite with DTS:X surround and Google Cast streaming

LG has rolled out a new version of its Sound Suite software that adds support for DTS:X object‑based surround sound and integrates Google Cast, giving owners of the company’s TV sound systems broader audio options and easier content streaming.

DTS:X, a format that places sound objects in a three‑dimensional space rather than assigning them to fixed channels, has been a frequent request among home‑theater enthusiasts. By enabling the codec, LG’s latest update allows compatible content to deliver a more immersive listening experience without the need for additional hardware.

The inclusion of Google Cast means users can now send audio from Android phones, tablets, Chrome browsers and other Cast‑enabled apps directly to the TV’s sound platform. This mirrors functionality found in many smart speakers and streamlines the process of playing music, podcasts or video soundtracks across the living‑room setup.

For consumers, the upgrade consolidates two popular features that were previously spread across separate devices. It positions LG’s ecosystem to compete more directly with rivals that have long offered similar capabilities, such as Sonos’ multi‑room audio and Samsung’s partnership with Dolby Atmos. The update is delivered via a firmware download, so owners of recent LG models can activate the new features without purchasing new equipment.

Looking ahead, the move suggests LG is intent on keeping its audio platform current as streaming services and immersive sound formats evolve. While the company has not detailed further enhancements, industry observers expect additional codec support and deeper integration with other smart‑home standards in subsequent releases.
