The discovery follows a wave of H5N1 cases that dominated headlines in 2020, when the virus swept across continents and killed millions of birds. While that initial wave has largely subsided, scientists now observe delayed, population‑level consequences that are beginning to surface in top predators such as falcons.

Ongoing surveillance aims to gauge the spread of the virus among both wild and captive birds, while biosecurity measures are being reinforced at rehabilitation centers to prevent further transmission.

Authorities are emphasizing the need for coordinated action, including limiting human disturbance around nesting sites, enhancing disease monitoring, and supporting vaccination research for high‑risk bird groups. Although the outlook remains uncertain, the combined experience of past pesticide challenges and current disease threats underscores the importance of sustained vigilance to safeguard the peregrine’s hard‑won comeback.
