Elgato Expands Into Mobile Audio with $99.99 Wave Go Wireless Mic
Elgato, a company best known for its desktop‑oriented streaming accessories, announced its first foray into mobile audio with the Wave Go wireless microphone, priced at $99.99. The compact transmitter clips to clothing, offering hands‑free recording for vloggers, podcasters and other creators who work outside of a fixed studio setup.
For years, Elgato has built a reputation on products such as capture cards, key lights and green screens that cater to creators who rely on powerful PCs. Those devices have become staples in many home‑studio workflows, but the company has not previously targeted the growing segment of creators who produce content on the move.
The Wave Go follows a design philosophy similar to DJI’s Mic Mini, featuring a small, lightweight transmitter that can be attached to a shirt or lapel. It pairs via Bluetooth or a proprietary 2.4 GHz link to a receiver that plugs into a camera, smartphone or computer, delivering up to 94 dB of gain and a claimed 20‑meter operating range. The unit includes a built‑in rechargeable battery that the manufacturer says lasts for several hours of continuous use.
Mobile creators have increasingly demanded reliable, unobtrusive audio solutions, as platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts prioritize crisp sound. Wireless microphones from DJI, Rode and Sennheiser already dominate this niche, and Elgato’s entry adds another option at a price point that undercuts many competitors. The $99.99 tag positions Wave Go as an affordable alternative without sacrificing the brand’s reputation for build quality.
Beyond the price, Elgato is leveraging its software ecosystem to streamline the user experience. The company plans to integrate the mic with its existing Stream Deck and Elgato Control Center apps, allowing users to monitor levels, switch channels and adjust settings from a single interface. Early reviewers have noted the simplicity of the clip‑on design, which eliminates the need for boom poles or handheld rigs in on‑the‑go scenarios.
The Wave Go is set to ship later this month and will be available through Elgato’s online store and major retailers. Its launch signals a strategic shift for the company, expanding its product lineup from stationary desktop gear to portable accessories. If the mic gains traction, it could encourage further development of mobile‑focused tools, reinforcing Elgato’s presence across the broader creator economy.
